Today is about Enjoying Life
Steve Jobs asked himself every day standing in front of a mirror: “If today was the last day of my life, would I do what I am about to do?” If there were too many days in a row with a clear “NO”, he knew he definitely needed to change something. And the same goes for you.
It does not mean necessarily that you need to change the job, the house, or the wife. All you really need to change is the way you look at the job, the house and the wife – or husband – and decide to enjoy him, her or it instead.
How would you do it different?
Today is not so much about what you would do differently, because you probably cannot just simply quit what you are doing. It is not necessary to quit. Today is about considering how you would do what you are about to do, if you decided to enjoy your day instead.
In the morning you have the whole day ahead of you to do the things the right way. Decide now to enjoy yourself and to have a peaceful day. Instead of rushing from one place to the next, take your time, return your awareness to the here and now.
Observe how beautiful your surroundings are, the people you meet. Smile at them, greet them nicely or just notice them. Try to find something you like about them.
Be aware of what you say and how you say it. Mean what you say. And listen, really listen, what others are trying to tell you.
If you happen to have some unpleasant encounters with people, then just simply start the day over, right now. This is your time, your experience, your life. There is no time to be wasted on not living life to the fullest.
OK, you might be at work and there are still several hours before you escape that treadmill. But, what is stopping you to be nice to your colleagues right now? What if today was the last day you could give any good advice to that sad character?
OK, there is a person you really don’t like and you are wishing the worst on them. That is not helpful to you. Forgive them their ways. Not because they are right and you are wrong. But simply because you will feel so much better after you have unburdened those negative feelings.
And what if it was their last day?
How would you treat a person if it were their last day? Would you be different? Observe your reactions when keeping this thought with people you meet today.
Additional Instructions – Enjoying Life
The same as yesterday write down or memorize the lesson of Day 2 – Enjoying Life, of How to Change Your Life:
Live each day as if it was your last.
It might just be.
Recall the lesson at least five times today. If you can, give it a few minutes of contemplation each time. What would you do differently for the rest of the day if that was your last day.
In the evening read the lesson and the additional text. Then think about your day:
- Were you able to remember your lesson?
- Were you able to shift your awareness into the here and now?
- Were you able to enjoy any moments of your day?
