Hooponopono – Vitale’s story on Hawaiian Healing

Hooponopono became known to the wider public through a blog post written by Dr. Joe Vitale. It said how Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len healed psychiatric patients with this powerful Hawaiian Healing Method, using four simple phrases.

People read this story full of wonders, posted and then reposted the blog on the web.

Slowly it spread all over the globe and became a topic many people were intrigued by and wanted to know more about.

A few years later Joe Vitale wrote a book together with Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len which was published in 2008 under the title Zero Limits.

Since then the seminars held by Dr Ihaleakala attract thousands of people all over the world.

I went to Dr Hew Len’s 2-day seminar called Self I-Dentity through Ho’oponopono, short SITH, in Prague in 2011. I imagined there to be around 40 participants – we ended up being about 350!

On the photo he is demonstrating how light shines through a transparent sheet of plastic. Before that he shows how light cannot pass through a black sheet of plastic.

When you have NOTHING obstructing your consciousness love can easily resurface. The four phrases of Hooponopono are the effective cleaning method to arrive at that state of NOTHING, where it is possible to feel the essence of true love, the essence that we are in truth.

At the seminar Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len told us his story about the psychiatric hospital:

He would look at a patient file and say with all his sincerity the four phrases: I love you, I am sorry, please forgive me and thank you. Learn the simple method here.

Then he would look at the next patient’s file and do the same. He would repeat this procedure for every single patient in his care. Then he would do this for every member of staff and every room in that hospital even on the building itself.

After a while, things began to change in that hospital: Violent patients became less violent, uncooperative patients would become more cooperative and staff would be less absent due to illness.

After eight years of Dr. Hew Len’s practice some of the most violent patients had been cured and allowed to return back home. In fact most of the patients could leave. You can read the exact details of the story in the book Zero Limits which has been written by Joe Vitale.

Dr. Ihaleakala was a student of Morrnah Simeona, who founded Self I-Dentity through Ho’oponopono. At the seminar we learned the different prayers and philosophies developed by Morrnah Simeona.

She had modernized the ancient Hawaiian ritual of Ho’oponopono and had heldPacifica seminars in the US and many other countries in the world. She even was declared a living treasure of the state of Hawaii.

Watch these 9-part interview series with Dr. Ihalekala Hew Len:

Dr. Ihaleakala extended Simeona’s teachings by introducing the famous mantra containing the four phrases which became a powerful healing method: I love you, thank you, please forgive me, I am sorry.

The photo shows a typical scene on a seminar:

Dr. Hew Len walks through the audience as he talks.  Trying to make us understand that the key to our happiness lays in cleaning our thoughts to arrive at a level where there are no obstacles and no limits: ZERO LIMITS.

My personal impression of the method and how Hooponopono Mantra works for me you can read here.

The four phrases were the main message of the seminar I went to. At the end of the seminar he gave us the one most important message in his personal opinion:

The two phrases I love you and thank you, said about every person and issue that crosses our mind or we meet on our path, will alone begin the changes in our lives.

  1. Dear Autor Judith

After a long research in the internet about ho’oponopono, I found the website of Pacifica Seminars. It have very interesting informations about Dr. Hew Len, about ho’oponopono and about Morrnah Simeona. This informations hit the nail on the head! I will share the links to you: Here are the links to it:

    and here:

Dr. Hew Len never talked about it, as far as I know. He never speak about Morrnah’s 14-step or 12-step process. But why?

    Be critical.
Scrutinize the information you are aware of.

Morrnah has created a great gift for humanity. I recommend you to use it. It is very powerful!

May the peace of the ‘I’ be with you.

    • Thank you Miles,

I was to a Seminar of Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len organised by IZI LCC, and he did mention Morrnah Simeona. Ho’oponopono is not my main technique for forgiveness, but sometimes this small prayer can help to get out the worst feeling of hate and unforgiveness. In this article which I have written the first time in 2012, I am mostly talking about my own experiences with this technique.
My main mind power tools nowadays are A Course in Miracles, Hemi-Sync and QiGong.
Thank you for sharing those interesting articles and thank you even more for writing to me. Join me on Instagram at @LucidMindCenter where I post daily.
